NCR – Not Catholic Right?

I went to Our Lady of Sorrows last week for Noon Mass. It was my first time going to Mass there, but I had seen pictures of Church. The church is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. On my way in there was a table in the lobby area that had some flyers and a stack of newspapers. So I picked up one since it was named the “National Catholic Reporter”. I went on into the church and finished my Rosary. I then sat back in the pew and took a look at the “Catholic” paper.

Needless to say I was shocked to see a two page “Paid Advertisement” asking for the ordination of “ALL” to the priesthood including women. 1) What is this type of advertisement doing in a “Catholic” paper and 2) what is this paper doing in Catholic Church considering that an all male priesthood is Catholic Doctrine and not Catholic Discipline. If you don’t know the difference, look it up.

Next I saw an article called “God don’t like ugly – Gay/Lesbian Movement deserves Christians’ support” There’s really no need to go into the points of the article as the title gives you an idea. Considering the church teaches in Paragraph 2357 of the Catholic Catechism…”homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered.” They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

I certainly have no issue with human rights for those who consider themselves homosexuals but human rights are for all humans, hence the name “Human Rights”. So again what is an article like this doing in a “Catholic” paper and in a Catholic Church?

In addition to that NCR had a classified ad towards the back of the paper in the “Vocations” section for the “The Catholic Apostolic Church in North America” Needless to say the CACINA is anything but a Roman Catholic Church. Again what is an advertisement like this doing in a “Catholic” paper and in a Catholic Church?

With that I must conclude the NCR is only Catholic by name and does not follow Roman Catholic Teaching. The worst part about it, is that this national paper is headquartered here in Kansas City @ 115 E. Armour Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64111

I am distressed by this and would ask for comments concerning what should be done. Is there anything that Bishop Finn & the Kansas City Diocese can do? Certainly they should be able to keep NCR papers out of their churches. But, what can the laity do? Please let me know your comments and suggestions for action. As Catholics we should not let this type of situation go unnoticed and un-addressed.
