Meditation on the Economy

It appears the economy is really headed into the tank. I have a few thoughts on why, although I am certainly no expert when it comes to the area of economics. But maybe common sense is worth more in this day and age. God help me that I have common sense.

My Reasons Why
#1 The spiritual condition of our society. As a society we rely too much on ourselves and throw God to the back seat if not out the window.

#2 We have allowed our elected officials (all of them) to spend like many of the families in our country. This is to say we’ve allowed them to spend above their means. Everyone thinks their elected official isn’t the problem it’s everyone else’s.

#3 The vast majority of society is not willing to take personal responsibility for their actions. You can see it across our country with mentalities like;

a) I’ve spent too much I’ll just file for bankruptcy.
b) I got a woman pregnant, I’ll get her to have an abortion.
c) I’ve cheated on my wife and like this other woman, so I’ll just get a divorce.
d) I didn’t study for tomorrow’s exam, I’ll just cheat my way through it.

After decades of these pervasive mentalities mentioned above we are bound to have economic difficulties.

I’m sure there are others but those are the ones that come to the top of my head. Our country last month elected a candidate who ran on "Hope & Change". Yet since his election society appears to be falling over itself to prepare for the absolute worst. I pray for our new President that he does well, and leads well. I pray that this economic condition will help people reprioritize their priorities. We all need to pray more and worry less.
