I’ve always loved this post at CMR http://www.creativeminorityreport.com/2008/07/marketing-new-new-mass.html#papaben Why can’t the American Bishops just do the same thing the Spanish Bishops are doing with the King of Spain? http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2009/dec/09120703.html
OBAMAS WOULD LIKE TO NEUTER CHRISTMAS In yesterday’s New York Times, there was an article about White House social secretary Desirée Rogers. In it, reporter Sheryl Gay Stolberg wrote: “When former social secretaries gave a luncheon to welcome Ms. Rogers earlier this year, one participant said, she surprised them by suggesting the Obamas were planning a ‘non-religious Christmas….’” This same participant said that “the Obamas did not intend to put the manger scene on display” (this was confirmed by the White House). Indeed, as Stolberg wrote, “there had been internal discussions about making Christmas more inclusive and whether to display the crèche.” Catholic League president Bill Donohue addressed this issue today: Unlike almost all Americans—including atheists—the Obamas do not give their children Christmas gifts. We know this because Barack bragged about this last year to People magazine. So it should come as no big surprise that he and his wife would like to neuter Christmas in the White House. That’s their natural step—to ban the public display of Christian symbols. Have any doubts? Last April, Georgetown University was ordered to put a drape over the name of Jesus as a condition of the president speaking there. If the Obamas want to deprive their children of celebrating Christmas, that is their business. It is the business of the public to hold them accountable for the way they celebrate Christmas in the White House. We know one thing for sure: no other administration ever entertained internal discussions on whether to display a nativity scene in the White House.

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — If pro-life advocates are going to be successful in preventing the 60 votes needed to approve the pro-abortion health care bill in the Senate, they could use the help of Pennsylvania Sen. Bob Casey, a self-declared pro-life Democrat. However, Casey won’t say if abortion funding in the bill will prompt him to vote no. Last month, the outgoing head of the pro-life committee at the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops said there is “no way” Catholic members of Congress can vote for a health care reform bill that includes abortion funding. During a press conference at the National Press Club on November 20, CNS News asked Cardinal Justin Rigali, the archbishop of Philadelphia if it would be a “mortal sin” for any Catholic to vote for the bill. Rigali said Catholic members of Congress need to vote with a well-informed conscience that reminds them abortion is “absolutely wrong” and there is “no way in the world” a health care bill deserves support if it funds abortions. Now, CNS News has asked Casey if he agrees with Cardinal Rigali’s statement that pro-life Catholics can’t vote for a pro-abortion health care bill. Casey won’t respond either way. “I’m not going to comment on what he [Rigali] has said in particular,” Casey said on Tuesday. CNS News asked Casey, “Cardinal Justin Rigali of Philadelphia has said there is ‘no way’ the Senate health-care bill as it currently stands can be supported because it permits tax dollars to go to health plans that cover abortions. Do you agree with Cardinal Rigali that the bill as it stands cannot be supported?” “I’m not one who compares what I say versus what someone else says about the bill,” Casey added. “I think it’s probably unfair to both sides to line up what I say versus what someone else says, so I’m not going to comment on what he has said in particular.” “I’ll state my position–which has been my position from the very beginning–which is that we’ve had a consensus in this country for more than two decades that taxpayer dollars don’t pay for abortions,” Casey continued, according to CNS. “What we’re trying to do in this debate, among many things we’re trying to achieve here, is to continue the consensus that’s been in existence for 25 years that taxpayer dollars don’t pay for abortion.” “It’s not easy to achieve that, it’s complicated, but that’s what we’re working on and that’s where we have this debate that’s taking place now on the floor with regard to abortion, as well as many, many other issues that are important to health care,” Casey concluded. During the interview, Casey said he expected to vote for the Nelson-Hatch amendment that would remove abortion funding from the bill. He voted for similar amendments in committee. Casey also confirmed he plans to offer an amendment to the Senate bill that would provide more support for pregnant women who may consider abortion. The amendment would be a modified version of the Pregnant Women Support Act has bill that has been a hallmark of the pro-life group Democrats for Life of America. “I just feel like if you are woman enough to open up your legs and let someone come in, you should be willing to let something come out,” said Jamie Sooniers of Westchester High School. “Abortions are just not right.” The whole article can be read here… http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-ca-abortion6-2009dec06,0,1451199.story TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or cabinets As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, Riding in the back of a pick- up truck on a warm day We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle. We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter and bacon. We would leave home in the morning and play all day, No one was able to reach us all day. And, we were OKAY. We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth We would get spankings with wooden spoons, switches, ping pong paddles, We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks We rode bikes or walked to a friend’s house and knocked on the door Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. If YOU are one of them, CONGRATULATION You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn’t it ? |
